This ballast car proclaims to be 48 years old (or 58 years old, depending on which you believe). Including its Atlantic Coast Line Heritage, much of its history is visible, both literally and implied at the end of the car's battered frame.
More color recently provided by an Extra Board Engineer out of Tampa, FL:"These cars were in captive service for most of their life in the Bone Valley region of Florida. A couple of years ago they were taken to Mulberry Railcar (Mulberry, FL, the heart of the Bone Valley) where the roofs were removed and the cars renumbered. They were rotary dumps, carrying phosphate from the Bone Valley to the dumpers at Rockport (Tampa). They have since been replaced with larger rotary dumps."
