While exploring the urban landscape south of Atlanta in suburban East Point I stumbled upon something seemingly out of place. This pole yard filled with old relics (brick kilns, derelict critters, pole cars, etc.) felt like something that one would find somewhere deep in rural Mississippi not in the suburbs of a major metropolis. The William C. Meredith company was founded in 1921 and began treating and making telephone poles in 1927. Back then I'm sure this location was rural back country, but not any longer. The industrial spur entering the pole yard passes under the double track elevated MARTA line and across busy four lane US Rte. 29 at grade while less than a mile away is NS Triple Crown roadrailer yard. Take a look at this link to Google Maps for an aerial of this area if you're interested. In this image an NS local is pausing deep in the yard next to some vintage shacks while performing an air test on the pick up.
