Days of rain have finally ended and a glorious spring sun greets The Durbin Rocket on her first weekend of operation in 2009. The little, 55-ton Climax is pulling especially hard this morning as her consist is a little longer than usual. In addition to the usual gondola, open coach and pair of cabooses, she's hauling an extra pair of specially outfitted "Castaway Cabooses". The latter are configured as rail-borne RVs and can be rented by patrons for an overnight stay at the remote picnic grove known as Piney Island. The morning train (seen here) typically collects the castaways and brings them back to "civilization". The service is popular and typically sold out weeks in advance.
