The 11th-Hour: You couldn't cut it any closer. In June 2002 the replacement of Cartier's Alcos wasn't months or weeks away, it was days away. The new GE AC4400s purchased by the remote ore road had already been loaded on a boat for Port Cartier, Quebec when Mike Confalone, Tim Franz and myself made our third and final trip within a year to shoot the Alcos. A year in which six-motor Alcos, ore trains, and the stunning scenery of northeastern Quebec was nothing short of addiction. Scanned from a Kodachrome 64 Slide.
