Officially named "Hero", MWRy #1 was the Mt. Washington Railway's first locomotive. Nicknamed "Old Peppersass", because her vertical boiler looked like a bottle of peppersauce, this locomotive served the railway for 12 years before being retired. In 1929, she was restored to operation for the railway's 50th anniversary. During the event, she was involved in a fatal accident. The wreck was then cosmetically restored and has been on display at Marshfield Station ever since.
