By January of 1970, the Coast Daylight was but a shadow of its former self as FP7 #6456 rolls the train into San Jose passing Stockton St. and College Park. The Daylight had the distinction of being the only passenger train the SP had never tried to abandon.

In the years after World War II Southern Pacific went from being the most bullish railroad on passenger service to one of its biggest detractors. It continually downgraded service until Amtrak took over what remained.
